Let's list it out:
1. The physical therapist said that Evan is making great strides this week. He's becoming more aware of himself. He's also focusing more. He's hitting all the appropriate milestones!

Ehermergerd! Hands!!!!!! |
2. Evan is "non-servo". This means he's responsible for maintaining his own body heat now. This also leads into...
3. Evan is wearing clothes!! His first outfit of choice had trains on it. He wasn't too sure about the onesie at first, but he settled right in.

4. EVAN BOTTLED!!! :) Yes, Evan started taking feeds from a bottle today. We only tried for about 10 minutes (so as to not wear him out), and he took down about 8 mL. Unfortunately, Evan used up all his alertness while getting dressed. He wanted to sleep during bottle time. Even after unbundling him and taking his hat off, he still wanted to sleep. The remaining milk went down his stomach tube.
Evan also graduated to a larger pacifier. This one mimics the bottle nipple. They'll continue to give him the pacifier when they feed him via the stomach tube. Evan will try one bottle feeding a day. As he starts staying awake through the feedings (and taking the whole feed from the bottle), they'll increase the number of times he gets a bottle. I was also warned that Evan may have a spell while he was trying to bottle today. It's a lot to remember: suck, breathe, swallow, repeat. Thankfully, Evan stayed fully saturated and didn't have a single spell. (Probably because he's awesome.) :)
What is this!? What do you mean I hafta be awake now?! Usually I just sleep through eating. Ugh, being a big boy is tough stuff. |
We tried to kangaroo tonight. Unfortunately, Evan is getting a little too big to stuff down my shirts. :( I think I need to wear Andrew's button downs so I can milk 'rooing a little longer. Evan desated during our snuggle so we switched him over to a burrito snuggle instead. He was much happier. I hope he wasn't trying to tell me that he was too big to snuggle!
Oh I guess I do still like to snuggle. |
All in all a great day for Evan. He also stayed on his back for a good portion of the day. I think this means that he's maturing as he would previously desat until he was flipped to his tummy. We need him to lay on his back to help round out his head a little!
All of this is fantastic! Happy tears as I study each of the precious photos. I'm sure Evan feels your love and I think he's doing so well because you make him the best milk. Keep it up!!
