Hm, what to do today... |
|
Heehee, now I get to have my lunch the lazy man way! |
Another good day for Evan. Rounds were very simple: up one on the feed (to 31 mL) and try again at bottling. Evan was more awake for bottle time today. Unfortunately, he was feeling a little stubborn. We tried for a little while before the nurse asked if I would like her to try. Just as she was putting on her gown (to avoid spit up mess), Evan had a spell that put an end to the bottling. He was completely fine, just knew that if he spelled, he could go back and have a lazy lunch while he snoozed. Little stinker. He did end up taking about 2 mL (the left overs went down his stomach tube once it was put back in). We were talking to the Fellow tonight as there's a new team coming on tomorrow (new Attending, Fellow, Resident and med student). She said that the new Attending coming on was surprised to learn that Evan was bottling already (32.5 weeks). The current Attending said that there has been new research recently that has shown that starting babies on bottling earlier than 33 or 34 weeks helps them developmentally. They're not looking for Evan to take an entire bottle yet, but it at least will help him start to associate needing to work for his food.
Evan is adjusting well to being wrapped up like a little burrito. He looks so cute all tucked in. He does like to have one had out and will wiggle it free if he needs to. He was nice and awake for our evening visit. He did go through 3 different hats. Evan was like Goldilocks - first hat wouldn't stay on and fell to the floor; second had ended up covered in poop (Momma didn't realize it until after it was on his head for a little while...); and the third was juuuuust right.

One Evan burrito please! Extra snuggles! |

Staring contest - Evan won. |
Side note: Evan had another poop explosion today. His frog hat was an unfortunate casualty that probably won't survive the incident. Thankfully his stuffed animals were at home getting a bath otherwise they probably would have joined the frog hat. We do try to warn each nurse about his um, eh hem, projectile bottom. Apparently this nurse didn't have her guard up. Whoops.
While Evan was out tonight, he did end up gagging on his milk. He was taking his paci (like he usually does) and started spitting up. We think it was a combination of his gag reflex triggering from the paci and the food going down the tube too fast. It did seem to startle him a little though!

Oye, what was in that milk last night?! |
Lastly, here's an updated picture of his apartment. The main difference between this and the giraffe is that the top doesn't come up. It's also a little smaller (so he looks bigger!). The sides do fold down all the way and the bed will slide out sideways if they need.

Is MTV cribs still on, cuz I wanna show off my house! |
Oh wait, here's a video of Evan being curious. This was taken tonight and he's discovered sucking on his fingers. Sometimes he's really aggressive and will slam his finger or thumb into his mouth. Enjoy and happy Friday! :) http://vimeo.com/77189458
